Four school children, in Year 10, have been friends all their school lives. Jules, a small rounded boy, the school 'boff' and bullied. Brilliant at most things, especially languages. Ed, tall and good looking in a rugged way, is the class pest but protects the bullied.  Clever but lazy. Their two girl friends are from well to do backgrounds. In complete contrast to the boys. Collette, tall, classically pretty, a future international class athlete. Does enough to get by in lessons. Rosie, small attractive team player, who works hard, very good dancer.

Ed's only parent is his dad.  A shady but pleasant character, apparently jobless yet somehow provides for Ed.  More often seen in the pub and the bookies. Jules' only parent, his mother, is over affectionate and proud of her son's academic prowess.  She is a prostitute, but it is not talked about. They live on the edge of an old walled off estate that is now overgrown and wooded.  The only surviving building is the Lodge, where the Professor lives.  This old academic has taken Jules under his wing and is teaching him ancient languages and texts.

He is so impressed with the young boy's abilities that he will soon enmesh Jules in the secret activities of the Order of Gilgamesh.  A group with important connections, pledged to find, save and restore ancient relics and writings: to ensure their safe return to their original countries or proper museums. But they are up against determined, ruthless and organised foes who work for unscrupulous collectors. When the Professor realises an old and deadly adversary is watching him, he begins to tell Jules important secrets before it is too late.  But they are overtaken by events.  The girls and the Professor are captured. Unexpected help and pursuit to the British Museum leads to the tortured revealing of a secret key.

Finally, a showdown in a secret chamber, where treasures of all ages are stored, with lives at risk and a hostage's life threatened. Jules must use his newly gained knowledge to save the day and save the life of a close friend. Perhaps, a kind of 'young Indiana Jones' for council estate kids.  The Order of Gilgamesh is a tale of teenage friendship, arrogant greed, revenge and betrayal. It begins the development of a brilliant scholar and young lad, whose growing knowledge will help discover and conserve the treasures of the ancient worlds, and revitalise the Order of Gilgamesh!
